My garage door won't open. What should I check?

The most common cause is a broken spring. Pull the red emergency release cord and try lifting the door by hand. If it lifts easily, the problem is the opener, so check that it has power. If the door is very heavy, a spring or cable has failed; leave it closed and call a technician.

Can you replace just one damaged section?

Often, yes. But manufacturers change their panel designs every so often, so matching sections for older doors may no longer be made. Damaged wood doors usually need a carpenter's repair or a new door. Sometimes a new door is the most economical choice, and we'll tell you if it is.
